I graduated my Bachelor degree in biology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and my Master degree in marine biology at the University of Rostock. In my master’s thesis I focused on functional morphology of the mouth apparatus of decapods.

I did my PhD in the lab of Gerhard Scholtz at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and investigated the male and female reproductive system of different species of true crabs (Eubrachyura). Due to its complexity, the reproductive system of eubrachyurans offers an excellent possibility to investigate morphological and phylogenetic questions. I used modern morphological methods such as µCT scans and 3D reconstruction and complemented them with histological sections as well as electron microscopy.

I had the honour to receive a scholarship from the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung.
